TI-66 Programmable Calculator

A year or two later I saw the new TI programmable calculator in the campus store. It was the new TI66 model, and it looked great. It was much more sleek than TI's original black calculators. Judging by the keys on the keypad it appeared to function in largely the same way. There was one major difference, however. This one would not reset the program memory when the calculator was turned off. You could put in a program and it would stay there until you deliberately deleted it. What a major advancement this was!

By this time in my college career I actually had a few extra dollars in my pocket. One day I decided to buy the calculator on a whim. But as soon as I started using it I was majorly disappointed. The processing speed was ridiculously slow. Slow enough to effectively make it unsable. I wound up tossing it in a drawer and pretty much forgetting about it.
